When Madinah is your first stop
Many visitors arriving at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah choose to begin with Madinah and move on to Makkah later. That means a long road journey straight after a flight, which is exactly when it pays to have everything arranged in advance: a driver waiting as you come out, a car that fits your luggage, and one direct drive to the door of your hotel near Al Masjid an Nabawi.
Umrah Taxi tracks your flight and sends the driver to the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. You have 60 minutes of free waiting after landing to clear passport control and collect your bags.
Jeddah Airport to Madinah fares (SAR per car)
| Sedan | Family SUV / van | VIP |
|---|---|---|
| 500 | 700 | 1000 |
The fare is fixed for the whole car, so it does not change with the number of passengers within its capacity. You pay on arrival at your hotel, with no prepayment for normal bookings. To compare other routes, see the taxi fares guide.
What to expect on the road
Jeddah and Madinah are about 420 km apart, and the drive usually takes around 4.5 to 5 hours depending on traffic and stops. The driver takes the highway north, which has rest areas and mosques along the way for prayer or a meal. Let the driver know when you need a rest, especially if you are travelling with children or elderly relatives.
Do I need ihram?
If you are going to Madinah first and not entering Makkah on this leg, you do not need to be in ihram on arrival in Jeddah. When you later travel from Madinah to Makkah for Umrah, you enter ihram at the miqat for Madinah (Dhul Hulayfah). If you intend to do Umrah before your visit, our Jeddah Airport to Haram page is the better fit.
Arriving near the Prophet's Mosque
Most hotels in the central area are a short walk from Al Masjid an Nabawi, and some surrounding streets can be crowded or restricted around prayer times. The driver takes you to your hotel entrance or the nearest permitted point and helps unload the bags, so send your exact hotel name when booking.
Choosing a car for a long trip
- Sedan: one to three travellers with moderate luggage.
- Family: families, or anyone with more than one large bag each, which is normal on longer Umrah trips.
- VIP: maximum comfort after a long-haul flight.
Tips after a long flight
- Charge your phone before landing: you will need it to reach the driver as you come out.
- Carry water and snacks: especially for children, as the road trip lasts several hours.
- Hotel check-in time: if you will arrive before check-in, contact the hotel in advance about storing your bags.
- Prayer timing: if you want to reach a particular prayer at Al Masjid an Nabawi, tell the driver so he can plan the pauses around it.
