Why some pilgrims fly into Taif
Jeddah is not the only way into Makkah. Some visitors arrive through Taif International Airport because the flight suits them better, or because they want a few days in Taif’s cooler climate before or after Umrah. The road from Taif to Makkah descends from the highlands to the plain. It is a beautiful drive, but one best left to a driver who knows it, especially on the mountain bends.
With Umrah Taxi your driver waits in the Taif airport arrivals hall with a sign showing your name. We track your flight, and you have 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. Then it is on to Makkah, to the nearest permitted point to your hotel near Masjid Al Haram.
Ihram: the key thing to plan on this road
Travellers coming from the Taif side pass the miqat of Qarn Al Manazil, known today as As-Sail Al Kabir. On the Al Hada road there is a corresponding point known as Wadi Muharram. Anyone intending Umrah enters ihram at the miqat and does not pass it without ihram.
- Tell us when booking that you want to stop at the miqat, so the driver allows time for it.
- The miqat has a mosque and facilities for washing and changing.
- If you put on ihram before or during the flight, let the driver know and he will carry straight on.
Which road do we take?
| Road | Character |
|---|---|
| Al Hada road | Usually the shorter option, winding down through the mountains with great views and many bends |
| As-Sail Al Kabir road | A little longer but gentler, and it passes the miqat directly |
The driver will suggest the better route based on traffic and your miqat plans, and the choice is yours.
The fare
This route is not on our published fare list, so we confirm a fixed price on WhatsApp before the trip, based on vehicle class and number of passengers. The fare is for the whole car, not per passenger, and is paid to the driver on arrival with no prepayment. Published fares for other routes are in our fares guide.
Reaching the Haram
Central Makkah has its own traffic rules, and some streets and tunnels leading to the Haram plazas are reserved for pedestrians or buses. Your driver takes you to your hotel or the nearest permitted point and helps with your bags. For rides around Makkah afterwards, our Makkah taxi service is available.
